BYD Subang Plant Employs 5,000 Workers, Targeting 20,000

SUBANG, Jakartaweekly.com—BYD’s vehicle manufacturing plant in Subang, West Java, currently employs around 5,000 local workers. The company aims to increase the workforce to 20,000 once the manufacturing facility becomes fully operational.

Vice President of BYD Company Limited and General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division Liu Xueliang said thousands of local workers are already involved in production activities at the Subang facility.

“To ensure that the car models here can be produced perfectly, we currently have 5,000 local workers from across Indonesia. They are diligent and hardworking,” Liu said at the inauguration of BYD’s plant in Subang, West Java, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026.

Liu said the workforce is expected to continue growing as production activities at the 126-hectare facility increase.

BYD is targeting a workforce of around 20,000 when the plant reaches full operation.

The BYD Subang plant integrates four major automotive manufacturing processes: stamping, welding, painting, and assembly. The facility has an annual production capacity of up to 150,000 vehicles.

Liu said the plant is not only intended to increase BYD’s production capacity in Indonesia but also forms part of the development of the country’s new energy vehicle industry.

As part of its operations, BYD is also preparing to manufacture vehicles powered by battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology as well as its DM technology, an electrified vehicle system developed by BYD.

The inauguration marks the start of operations at BYD’s manufacturing facility in Indonesia. The plant is part of BYD’s efforts to expand its manufacturing operations and build a new energy vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
