Husein Sastranegara Airport Prepares International Routes, Here Are the Airline

BANDUNG, Jakartaweekly.com—Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung is preparing to restore international air connectivity, with three routes proposed by several airlines: Bandung-Singapore, Bandung-Kuala Lumpur, and Bandung-Johor Bahru.

The preparations are part of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia’s, or InJourney Airports’, efforts to strengthen air connectivity from Bandung and support the growth of tourism and the economy in West Java.

Husein Sastranegara Airport General Manager Granito W. Hindrawan said the airport had prepared the facilities and operational aspects needed to support international flight services.

“Husein Sastranegara Airport has prepared the facilities needed to support international flight services. This readiness covers passenger service and flight operation facilities, as well as support from Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) authorities,” Granito said in a written statement on Saturday (Sept. 5, 2026).

According to Granito, several airlines have submitted proposals to launch international routes to and from Bandung. The proposed routes are Bandung-Singapore, Bandung-Kuala Lumpur, and Bandung-Johor Bahru.

Direct air connectivity with Singapore and Malaysia is considered to have significant potential to boost international tourist arrivals in Bandung and West Java.

If the international services are realized, Husein Sastranegara Airport projects international passenger traffic to reach around 413,000 passengers in 2027.

“With direct flights from Malaysia and Singapore to Bandung, we see significant opportunities to increase international tourist arrivals. Bandung and West Java offer a range of tourist destinations, creative economy attractions, culinary experiences, and business opportunities that could appeal to international visitors,” Granito said.

The development of international connectivity is being pursued alongside efforts to strengthen the airport’s domestic network. Since the resumption of medium-sized jet aircraft operations, including Boeing 737-800 services, on Aug. 14, 2026, Husein Sastranegara Airport has served flights to and from Denpasar, Kualanamu, Balikpapan, Surabaya, and Palembang.

The routes are operated by Garuda Indonesia and Citilink. In the near future, Super Air Jet will also launch services to and from Husein Sastranegara Airport on routes including Kualanamu, Denpasar, Pekanbaru, Makassar, Pontianak, and Balikpapan.

The strengthening of air connectivity is also expected to drive passenger growth. Husein Sastranegara Airport projects passenger traffic to reach 437,000 in 2026.

The figure is targeted to increase to 1.4 million passengers in 2027, supported by 12,600 aircraft movements.

“Air connectivity continues to be developed through the addition of routes and flight frequencies, supported by coordination and collaboration with all stakeholders,” Granito said.

Husein Sastranegara Airport will continue to coordinate with airlines, local governments, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure the development of international air connectivity proceeds optimally.

“We want Husein Sastranegara Airport to be not only an air transportation gateway, but also an important part of supporting the growth of tourism, the economy, and connectivity in West Java. We invite all stakeholders to work together to build stronger air connectivity for Bandung,” Granito said.
