Indonesia-Kazakhstan Sign Industrial Cooperation MoU at INNOPROM 2026

Yekaterinburg, Russia –Jakartaweekly.com, Indonesia and Kazakhstan have taken a significant step toward strengthening bilateral industrial ties by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Industrial Cooperation during INNOPROM 2026, where Indonesia is participating as the event’s Official Partner Country.

The agreement was signed following a bilateral meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Construction Ersaiyn Nağaspaev on Tuesday (July 7) in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

Minister Agus said Indonesia views Kazakhstan as a strategic partner in Central Asia and an important gateway for Indonesian manufactured products into the broader Eurasian market.

“Indonesia sees Kazakhstan not only as a strategic partner in Central Asia and Eurasia but also as a promising gateway for Indonesian industrial products to access the wider Eurasian market. We hope this momentum will lead to more concrete, practical, and mutually beneficial industrial cooperation,” Agus said.

The meeting underscores Indonesia’s broader objective of leveraging its participation in INNOPROM 2026 to expand industrial diplomacy, strengthen global supply chains, attract investment, and foster technology partnerships beyond Southeast Asia.

Bilateral Trade Continues to Grow

Economic relations between the two countries have continued to strengthen in recent years. Indonesia and Kazakhstan recorded US$172.2 million in non-oil and gas trade in 2025.

Trade accelerated further during the first four months of 2026, with bilateral trade reaching US$138 million, representing a 62.51 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Indonesia’s exports to Kazakhstan also posted strong growth, totaling US$114.4 million in 2025, up 26.69 percent year-on-year.

Indonesia’s leading exports include electronics, machinery, tobacco, palm oil and its derivatives, and footwear, while imports from Kazakhstan consist primarily of iron and steel, zinc, chemicals, and cotton.

According to the Ministry of Industry, the complementary trade structure between the two economies provides a solid foundation for expanding industrial cooperation, investment, and supply chain integration.

Supporting the Indonesia–EAEU Free Trade Agreement

During the meeting, both ministers reviewed progress following the Second Indonesia–Kazakhstan Joint Commission Meeting, held in Astana on May 11, 2026.

The discussion also focused on maximizing opportunities created by the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA), which was signed on December 21, 2025 and is currently undergoing ratification.

The agreement is expected to significantly improve market access between Indonesia and the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), including Kazakhstan, boosting trade, industrial collaboration, and cross-border investment.

The two countries also discussed cooperation across priority sectors, including trade, investment, energy, minerals, food security, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence.

Indonesia continues to advocate for broader market access for its flagship exports, including palm oil and downstream products, electrical and mechanical equipment, footwear, rubber-based products, and processed foods.

Expanding Industrial Collaboration

Beyond trade, the newly signed MoU establishes a framework for collaboration across multiple industrial sectors.

Indonesia and Kazakhstan will work together to explore and implement joint investment projects in machinery manufacturing, the automotive industry, finished goods production, and other strategic manufacturing sectors.

The agreement also promotes technology transfer, industrial linkages, supply chain development, and collaboration in metallurgy and advanced manufacturing, including downstream mineral processing and the development of higher value-added industrial products.

In addition, both countries agreed to organize joint business dialogues and industry forums, develop industrial estates, strengthen cooperation between private companies through joint ventures and localized production, and encourage greater industrial investment.

The partnership also covers industrial transformation initiatives and human capital development through joint training programs involving government agencies, universities, and other relevant institutions.

Indonesia hopes the implementation of the MoU will further strengthen bilateral relations with Kazakhstan, particularly in the industrial and trade sectors, while creating broader opportunities for businesses and investors from both countries.

As Partner Country at INNOPROM 2026, Indonesia is showcasing its manufacturing capabilities and investment opportunities through the Indonesia Pavilion, while inviting Kazakh government representatives and industry leaders to explore partnerships with Indonesian companies participating in the Eurasia region’s largest industrial exhibition.
