Jakartaweekly.com – BMKG data indicates thunderstorms will grip parts of the capital mid-week before conditions gradually improve heading into the following weekend — but don’t put away the umbrella just yet.
Jakartans heading into the coming week should prepare for a mixed bag of showers, rumbling thunderstorms, and overcast skies — with a more settled pattern gradually asserting itself by week’s end, according to the latest forecast data from the Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika (BMKG).
The forecast covers the period from Wednesday, March 25 through Friday, April 4, and paints a picture typical of the wet season’s tail-end grip on the capital. Humidity levels remain high across all districts, ranging from 68% to over 95% at various points during the week, keeping the air thick and uncomfortable even on days without rain.
“Thunderstorms are forecast for Jakarta Selatan, Jakarta Timur, and Jakarta Barat mid-week — residents should stay alert for heavy downpours and lightning.”
Early in the week, most of central Jakarta will see overcast or lightly rainy conditions. Jakarta Pusat and Jakarta Utara begin with cloudy skies, with temperatures hovering around a humid 23–24°C. Light rain is forecast to arrive by Thursday and persist into the weekend, with chances of showers across all districts.
The most significant weather event of the week is expected around Sunday, March 29 to Tuesday, March 31, when thunderstorms — including lightning — are forecast for Jakarta Selatan, Jakarta Timur, and Jakarta Barat. Temperatures on those days will range from 23°C overnight to highs around 27–30°C in the afternoon, accompanied by humidity that may peak near 95–98% in some areas.
The coastal district of Kepulauan Seribu tells a slightly different story. The islands see predominantly light rain and cloudy conditions throughout the period, with temperatures holding steady between 25–28°C — marginally more moderate than the mainland and with lower peak humidity. By mid-next week, the islands are expected to clear to partly cloudy.
Encouraging signs emerge toward the end of the forecast window. From Monday, March 31 onwards, BMKG data indicates that most districts — including Jakarta Pusat, Jakarta Utara, Jakarta Barat, and the islands — will transition to predominantly cloudy but dry conditions. By the close of the period on Friday, April 4, virtually all districts are forecast to return to overcast and dry.
Temperatures throughout the week are expected to remain within a consistent tropical range: nighttime lows of 23–25°C and daytime highs reaching 28–30°C in the warmer urban corridors of Jakarta Barat and Jakarta Selatan. Residents planning outdoor activities are advised to aim for the latter part of the forecast period when rain probability drops significantly.
