JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com – KAI Logistik has obtained halal certification for its retail freight delivery services. The certification specifically applies to its KALOG Express service at three high-volume distribution points: Jakarta Gudang, Semarang Poncol, and Surabaya Kota.

President Director Yuskal Setiawan said the certification marks a new phase in enhancing retail service standards, particularly in ensuring product integrity throughout the distribution process.

“This certification is not merely about fulfilling administrative requirements, but reflects a deeper commitment to building stronger market trust, especially among sectors that rely on the integrity of distribution processes to maintain overall product quality,” Yuskal said in a press release on Friday, April 3, 2026.

He said the halal certification provides both legal and operational certainty for cargo owners amid increasingly competitive industry dynamics. It also aims to create a more holistic and reliable logistics ecosystem, particularly in the small-parcel delivery segment.

Yuskal said, the availability of halal-certified retail services also offers a practical solution for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in meeting the mandatory halal certification deadline set for October 2026.

Under Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance and Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021, various commodities—including food, beverages, and traditional medicine—are required to obtain halal certification.

“KAI Logistik is here to ensure that the distribution chain does not become a weak link for MSMEs in meeting these regulatory standards,” he said.

Technically, the certificate, numbered ID00410018283070424, was officially issued on March 11, 2026, following a series of rigorous audits conducted by the Halal Inspection Body (LPH) PT Sucofindo.

Yuskal explained that the audit process, carried out in late February 2026, included comprehensive assessments of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH), material handling procedures, as well as washing and cleansing facilities in retail services.

The thorough supervision ensures that all operational processes in the field comply with applicable regulations and standards.

In daily implementation, KAI Logistik applies strict segregation standards to prevent cross-contamination with regular goods or animal shipments.

Each package classified under the halal category is assigned a special label, allowing it to be grouped exclusively in designated storage areas. These goods are placed on pallets lined with clean tarpaulins and covered with additional protective layers to maintain product sterility during transit and delivery.

Yuskal said Jakarta, Semarang, and Surabaya were selected as the initial locations for halal-certified retail services due to their high distribution activity and strategic roles as key logistics hubs on Java Island.

With the introduction of halal-certified services at these locations, the company aims to support the growth of the Islamic economy in surrounding areas while providing added value to customers who are increasingly selective in choosing logistics partners.

The expansion of halal certification to retail services, he added, is part of the company’s roadmap, following earlier certification for container services at several logistics terminals.

Going forward, the management is committed to continuously evaluating and expanding halal-certified services to other distribution points in line with evolving customer needs.

“This effort is part of the company’s vision to deliver logistics services that excel not only in timeliness and cost efficiency, but also in ensuring quality and providing a sense of security for all customers, in line with sustainable and value-added service principles,” he said.
