JAKARTA, Jakartaweekly.com — Actress Nirina Zubir took on one of the biggest acting challenges of her career in Jangan Buang Ibu. In the Leo Pictures production, Nirina portrays the character Ristiana across three different stages of life — in her 40s, 50s, and 60s.

The transformation is reflected not only through makeup and physical appearance but also through body language, walking style, and facial expressions that evolve with the character’s age.

Through the role, Nirina brings to life Ristiana, a devoted mother who dedicates her life to raising her children, only to face the heartbreaking reality of being placed in a nursing home by her three grown children.

Nirina admitted that playing Ristiana was particularly challenging because she had to imagine herself more than two decades older than she is today. According to her, projecting herself into the future was not easy because there is no clear picture of what she will be like at that age.

“That’s why every movement, the way she walks, the way she looks at people — letting go and fully becoming that version of Nirina was quite difficult,” Nirina said in Jakarta recently.

Beyond the professional challenge, the role of Ristiana also left a deep personal impact on the actress. She said the character influenced aspects of her daily life.

One of those changes is speaking more calmly. She often finds herself questioning the purpose of rushing or becoming overly emotional when talking.

Producer and Leo Pictures CEO Agung Saputra believes Nirina successfully portrays a strong and sincere mother through the character. According to him, audiences will not only witness a remarkable physical transformation but also the selfless devotion of a mother willing to sacrifice everything for her children’s future.

Jangan Buang Ibu follows the life journey of Ristiana, a mother who dedicates herself to raising her children. However, as she grows older and circumstances change, she must face the painful reality of being sent to a nursing home by the very children who had always been the center of her life.

In addition to Nirina, the film stars Refal Hady, Amanda Manopo, Dwi Sasono, Erika Carlina, Fadly Faisal, and several other cast members. The film is scheduled to be one of the family dramas featured in Indonesian cinemas in June 2026.
